SAL Sunday 2021 – 3

Hi crafty friends, I hope you are doing well. It’s time for a SAL update, so here is where I was 3 weeks ago….

I’m so close to finishing but not quite there! I hope to be showing you a finished piece in another 3 weeks!

This SAL is organised by the lovely Avis. and it’s a bit different than many SALs because we are all working on our own projects at our own pace. It’s really helpful to me as a way of pushing me forward to complete projects (I just need to actually get them fully finished into frames etc but one step at a time!) Please visit the other SAL members blogs, they are such a talented group who are working on really beautiful projects. I’ve linked them here so you can easily find them.

Avis , Claire, Gun, Carole, Constanze  ,Christina, Kathy , Margaret , Cindy  , Heidi , Jackie , Sunny, ,Megan , Deborah , Mary Margaret, Renee, Carmela,  SharonDaisyAnne ,ConnieAJLaura, CathieLinda, and Helen

Tell a Fairy Tale – I dare you!

Happy Friday crafty friends, I hope you’ve had a fab week? It’s time for a new Daring Cardmakers Challenge and this week the lovely Rizwana, in honour of National Tell A Fairy Tale Day would like you to take out your fairies, goblins, witches, elves, trolls, giants and talking animals. Create a card inspired by your favourite Fairytale or fairytale character. I chose to use Cindy Ella and the sentiments from the Princess Tales JMC Designs digital colllection.

I am still working through a file of papers I’ve created with inks, paints, sprays etc! This background is a piece of watercolour paper and some watercolours which I painted on and then sprinkled rock salt to create the pattern. I think I was trying to create a galaxy effect and it didn’t work but I thought it would work for a fairy tale project somehow.

I coloured Cindy with alcohol pens and added some highlights with white and gold gel pen and then some glitter with my spectrum noir glitter marker (I can never capture the sparkles in photos but I promise her dress is really quite shimmery!

I cut the sentiment out and added a border with green and yellow alcohol pens to complement the background.

I love being part of Julia’s Design Team and playing with her gorgeous characters. This fairy tale collection is so fun! I hope you will share your fairy tale inspired cards with us this week too!

Aud Sentiments Challenge #269 – Spring + a sentiment

Hi crafty friends, hope you are having a good day? I’m here with a new challenge over at the Aud Sentiments Challenge and I’m so glad the theme is spring! I think the combination of being in lockdown for about 2 months and a really cold winter with lots of snow has got me fed up and ready for some warmer days and longer days. I decided to make a tulip themed spring card as they are one of my favourite flowers.

I used a Creative Expressions die, the Tulip Square by Sue Wilson. I cut it out twice in black centura pearl card and glued the two together and layered up on a plain white square. To add some colour I went to my pile of inky papers. The leaves were cut from the last scrap of some smooshed distress oxide inks. For the tulip I used some new papers that I’ve been playing with this week. This was the combination of Pixie Powders used.

To finish off the card I added a stamped sentiment and some nuvo glitter drops.

If you would like to see how I made the red paper check out this video on my YouTube channel!

Thanks for stopping by, please say hi in the comments!

Kiss Kiss – I Dare You!

Hi crafty friends, it’s Friday again and I’m back with the new Daring Cardmakers Challenge. Our host for this week is the lovely Joanne and our prompt is Kiss Kiss. Joanne informed us that today is Kissing Friday! Did you know that on the Friday of Shrove Week, English schoolboys were once entitled to kiss the girls without being punished or rejected? https://www.historic-uk.com/CultureUK/Kissing-Friday/ I admit I had never heard of this, it certainly doesn’t fit in the #MeToo era we thankfully now live in! Thankfully Joanne hasn’t challenged us to force kisses on anyone but we are asked to make a card with a kiss. It could be an image of characters kissing, some luscious lips or perhaps you’ll use a kissing technique with your rubber stamps. For extra brownie points K.I.S.S and make your card clean and simple!

So this prompt felt like the perfect excuse to use this cheeky stamp from Picket Fence Studios.

I also tried to make it a CAS card so I used some die cut lipsticks (or maybe glamorous glue sticks!). I added some shadow for the lip sticks with a grey watercolour pencil and a water brush. To finish off the card I added some lips in the top corner. I recently purchased a WOW kit (I think it is an old subscription box which I purchased from their website. I used their blush pink foil with their Bonding powder to foil a stamped image of lips.

So I hope my card made you chuckle and that you will share a card with a kiss on the Daring Cardmakers Challenge this week. Keep safe and well everyone

Share the Love – I Dare You!

Happy Friday crafty friends! I hope you’ve had a good week? I’m back today with the new challenge over on the Daring Cardmakers Challenge, this week hosted by the lovely Dawn.  Its nearly valentines Day so she would like to see your cards featuring some love. Its doesn’t have to be just for valentines. Think of an occasion when someone needs a little love, a hug or even just a card to show you care. Things are hard at the moment so sending a card just because you care is so needed and will be appreciated.

I decided to use some digi stamps from the latest release, the Musical Notettes. The collection was inspired by Julia’s daughter singing the scales so there is a character for every note…. Do, Re, Me etc! I’ve used Do, along with the deer from the accessories and one of the sentiments from the collection.

I printed Do out twice, on plain paper and on tartan paper. I used the tartan to paper piece parts of her dress and hairband. The rest I coloured with my triblend markers from Spectrum Noir. The deer I coloured with some Promarkers which I recently purchased to try out.

I have a large stack of inky papers I have created and I’m trying to use them up. So the spotty papers were made with some brushos on bubble wrap. I tore an edge and added a border in black pen. I’ve also been enjoying playing with corrugated card (I’m sure you will notice a trend on here!) so I added some golden yellow here and then put some tartan ribbon. The sentiment is layered up on the same tartan from Do’s outfit and some Kraft card. The finished card is…..

I thought it would be a fun card to send to a friend to say hello and I miss you! I hope you like it and that you will share your love themed cards with us over on the Daring Cardmakers Challenge!

Aud Sentiments Challenge #268 – Anything Goes + a sentiment!

Happy Thursday crafty friends! It’s tome for another Aud Sentiments challenge and it’s an Anything Goes challenge so it’s super easy for everyone to enter! (Please remember you need to have a sentiment on your project for this challenge!)

The fabulous sponsor for this challenge is Oddball Art by Lizzy Love and they have very kindly given us a gift certificate for the winner!

I was delighted to be given the Kawaii Seals and Sentiments set to work with and let me tell you they are adorable and fabulous value for money with 4 different seal images and a selection of fun sentiments.

I coloured two of the seals with my triblend markers from Spectrum Noir and fussy cut them out. I then made a little snowy background with some pale blue and white card. I used watercolour to create some shading to the sky and then with a white gel pen I added some snowflakes. I added the seals, with one glued straight to the scene and one popped up on 3d pads. I then added some shadows around them again with the watercolour. I arranged some corrugated card and the scene on the card base and then added the sentiment to finish it off.

I hope that these two cute seals bring a smile to you today. I can’t wait to see the entries for this challenge, it’s always such a wide selection for an Anything Goes theme! I hope to see you over on the Aud Sentiments Challenge!

SAL Sunday 2021 – 2

Hi crafty people, how are you all today? I feel like my SAL posts always include a little pandemic update from our corner of the world…. so we are still in lockdown, until the end of February I think at this stage. The numbers are starting to come down in Scotland and the vaccination programme is going really well. As rubbish as lockdown is, I think it’s amazing that we have a selection of vaccines and that at least here in Scotland 99% of the care home residents have been vaccinated and 92% of people over the age of 80 in the community (my Mum being one of them!). They have started on the 70s, 65 + are next and lots of care home and NHS staff too. There is much to be grateful for not least the clever scientists and amazing staff who are rolling out the vaccination programme. Spring is round the corner and I feel hopeful of better times ahead. The other ray of sunshine this week was the rugby yesterday when Scotland won the Calcutta Cup for the first 1st time at Twickenham since 1983! I hope you have been finding some rays of sunshine despite everything that’s happening in the world

It’s been another productive stitching time for me. Three weeks ago I was here….

Today I am here….

It’s a snowy day which is perfect stitching weather (although my husband thinks it’s golfing weather and he is off for a game!) so I’m looking forward to getting some more done and cheering on Ireland in the rugby!

This SAL is organised by the lovely Avis. who keeps us all on track (it’s always a surprise to me when the email comes in and I think it cannot be 3 weeks already!!) I just wanted to say a big thank you to Avis and all my fellow stitchers who really keep me motivated to stitch regularly. I’m looking forward to catching up with all the other blogs in this SAL group.  Please give them a visit too, I’ve linked them here so you can easily find them.
