Wear it Pink – I Dare You!

Happy Friday crafty friends! I hope you’ve all had a good week? It’s getting chilly here in Scotland perfect crafting weather though! It’s time for a new challenge over at the Daring Cardmakers blog and this week we are hosted by lovely Joanne who asks us to “wear it pink” in honour of breast cancer awareness month.

This is very close to my heart as my mother in law suffered from breast cancer and sadly passed away in 2018. She is greatly missed for the loving, kind Mum she was as well as being such a fun person who loved to laugh and spend time with her friends and family. This was taken on my first visit to South Africa before her illness and we had such a great time staying with her and spending a week in the Kruger Park together. She had baked an absolute mountain of cookies for our arrival and even after eating many many of them during our 3 week stay we still had a good supply to take home! We had just booked our wedding when she was diagnosed and we worried that she might not be around to help us celebrate in a years time as she was so ill. However cancer had met it’s match and she wasn’t going to let it make her miss her boy’s wedding! Not only did she make it she was one of the last on the dance floor!

I chose to make a butterfly themed card as butterflies always make me think of people who are no longer with us. I used a Memory Box butterfly frame die to cut the frame in white and also in some inky glossy paper I had in my stash. I paper pieced the pink into the wings on top of some bright pink card that I had made with a liquid ink. I then added a sentiment and some nuvo drops and voila…..

I hope you like my little pink butterfly card. Keep safe and well everyone and I’ll see you again soon.

Candy Corn or Peppermint Fondant – I Dare You!

Happy Friday crafty friends! How are you all? I hope you’ve had a great week. We have had a hectic one with some home renovations going on. It’s been a conveyer belt of joiners, plumbers, electricians and painters but we are very nearly done and it’s looking beautiful! Today is the first morning we’ve been able to use our brand new shower!

Anyway in between making cups of tea and hoovering up dust I did have some time for crafting! The new Daring Cardmakers Challenge is hosted by Svenja and she asks us to make a card inspired by Candy Corn or Peppermint Fondant.

” In the US candy corn season is going pretty strong. Whereas peppermint fondant is a traditional German sweet, that ususally comes in blocks of white and strong pink. To celebrate these favourites, make a card using either a combination of white, yellow & orange or withe & strong pink. Extra (virtual) brownie points if it’s sweets-themed.”

Now I have never tasted either of these but I wonder if Peppermint Fondant is similar to Peppermint Ice which I’m sure every Scottish child has made at school. Anyway I opted for the candy corn. I cut circles of orange, yellow and white card and glued them together before cutting them into wedges and rounding off the corners to create my candy corn. I found I had a tiny candy corn stamp in my Whoo to You stamp set from Clearly Besotted. I made a little stripe of patterned paper with this stamp and coloured them all in. The sentiment is another Clearly Besotted stamp set called Trick or Treat. I inked up my card base with Ripe Persimmon Distress oxide and then finished off with nuvo crystal drops in ripened pumpkin, glitter drops in yellow bird and vintage drops in chalk stick.

LI’m looking forward to see all your sweet treat cards! Happy crafting….

Awesome Autumn – I Dare You!

Happy Friday crafty friends! How has your week been? It’s feeling very autumnal here in Scotland and we’ve put the heating on as it has been much colder. I don’t mind though, I like this time of year and as a bit of a hermit I enjoy a cosy evening at home with the candles lit and some stitching in front of the telly, it’s a wild life I lead! Anyway all of that is leading to the new Daring Cardmakers Challenge which Shabneez has set for us this week. Our theme is Awesome Autumn and Shabneez said “I love autumn and all the colours and textures associated with it so I’d love to see your creations to celebrate my favourite season with me!”.

I had a leafy wreath cutting die which I think I found on ebay, I’ve no idea who made it but this felt like the perfect excuse to use it. I cut it from plain white card and then tried smooshing some distress oxides onto it to get some autumnal colours. I wasn’t happy with the depth of colour though so instead I pulled out some Catherine Pooler inks and pressed the die cut card directly onto the ink pads.

I heat embossed my sentiment straight onto the card base with this copper embossing powder and then arranged the wreath with some die cut acorns from a Tim Holtz set. The finishing touch (as usual for me!) was a few nuvo drops in antique rose and ripened pumpkin.

I think my acorns are a bit out of proportion but I quite like the jumbo size of them, the squirrels would be super excited to gather these I think!

I hope you will hop on over to the Daring Cardmakers Blog to see the gorgeous cards made by my lovely design team chums and that you will share your autumnal make too. Thanks so much for visiting the blog.

Aud Sentiments Challenge #286 Halloween

Hi crafty friends, how are you doing today? It’s time for a new challenge over at the Aud Sentiments blog and this week is one of my favourites….. Halloween!

Challenge number 286 is sponsored by the lovely Paper Shelter and they very kindly gifted the design team members the Spoooky digital stamp which comes with a pre coloured version, a background and the line drawing that you can colour as you like.

I coloured in the figure using alcohol markers and fussy cut the image out. I then created two backgrounds with the Trick or Treat stamp set from Clearly Besotted. The first I made with heat embossed resist and distress ink smooshing.

The other was just a simple stamping of little spider webs. I added a die cut sentiment and some card mats in black and purple. I felt like the little ghost on the sentiment needed a little bling so I added stickles in crystal ice. To make the Spoooky figure stand out I added a little shadow with a grey watercolour pencil and a water brush.

I hope that you have fun making a Halloween themed project to join in this challenge. Remember the only rule is that you need to include a sentiment on your project. Thanks for visiting the Ginger Ninja Crafts blog.

Happy Friday and welcome to October! The first Friday of a new month means it’s time for our Elemental Challenge over at the Daring Cardmakers Challenge. In other words we give you an image to pick at least 3 items from for inspiration for your card. Ruth provided our inspiration this month…..

I used the blue colours, the little cute bunny with an eye patch and the knitted texture from the cushions and it turned into this……
