SAL Sunday – 6

Happy Sunday crafty people!  How is your weekend going?  We’re having a quietish weekend at home, pottering about in the house and garden apart from seeing the new Avengers film last night.  As always three weeks has whizzed past at break neck speed and it’s time for another SAL post.

In case you haven’t seen one of my SAL posts before I should explain.  SAL stands for Stitch Along and this one is organised by the lovely Avis.  The idea is to finish off a UFO (or Unfinished Object!) and let me tell you I have lots of those!  If you fancy joining in then contact Avis and she will give you all the information you need.

At last I can do my happy dance!  Here it is the finished project….. (yay!)

You are amazing!

Hi crafty people, I hope you are all well and enjoying some sunny weather.  I think the forecast here is for rain but so far so good!  Today I’m sharing a card for the Cupcake Inspiration Challenge which asks us to make a card with an inspirational quote.

I used the Beautiful Butterflies die set from Hunkydory moonstone and the Words of Wisdom stampset, also from Hunkydory.

I cut a circle of white card and made a bocca background with inks and stamped my chosen sentiment on the card with black ink.  I added a black circle behind it the bocca circle.  The butterflies outline was cut from black card and the shape behind was using up some alcohol inked yupo paper that was made for another project.

New stamps to play with

Happy Monday crafty people!  I hope you have all had a fab weekend.  As it was Easter yesterday we had a 4 day weekend and the weather has been glorious every day!  This is a rare occurance in April in Scotland, never mind over a holiday weekend!  We’ve had a lovely relaxing few days enjoying the garden, eating chocolate and hot cross buns, what more could you ask for?!

I recently ordered a couple of stamp sets from Alpaca Pals by Tracey Hey after admiring them for a while on instagram.  I ordered the rhino rascals and make a splash set.  They came very quickly and were just as cute as I had hoped.

I thought I would share the first few items I made with some of these stamps.  I coloured some of them with alcohol pens and some with a watercolour brush and distress oxide inks.  The background’s were made with spray inks, some through stencils and some just sprayed direct onto paper.

 

 

I’m sure that these won’t be the last stamps from this range that make their way to my stash (I’ve got my eye on the lion!) as they are so cute and come with perfect sentiments and phrases to match up with the pictures.

H for Hang it up

Hi crafty people, how are you doing?  I’m back today with a card for this month’s ABC Christmas Challenge for the prompt H for “hang it up”.  It took me a while to think what I would make but then I remembered that I had some Tonic Studios dies which could be used to make a hanging decoration (although I’ve only used them to make card toppers so far).  I decided to make the best of both worlds with a hanging decoration in a card!

I cut the star outline from pink mirror card twice and then used the detail die to cut out the design from the star.  It took me a little bit to work out that I needed to cut the detail from the “inside” of the one of the stars so I could match them up.   I then cut some vellum to sandwich in between the two stars and added some sparkly ribbon to hang it up.

For the card base I used some bright Christmas paper in my stash (Hobbycraft Pa Rom Pa Pom Pom 12 x 12 pad) that matched in with pink mirror card and a 7 inch square card.  I cut a large round window for the decoration to hang inside.  Then I covered the front and the inside with some of the patterned papers and cut a round frame for the window from the pink mirror card.  I added a white circle inside to write a message to the recipient.  I fussy cut a couple of the baubles from the paper and added them on 3d foam pads in two corners of the card.  Inside I added a die cut sentiment.  To add the decoration I folded the ribbon over the top edge of the card and stuck it down with a piece of washi tape so it can be easily removed.

One layer card

Happy Thursday crafty people!  I hope you are having a great week.  It’s a gorgeous sunny day here in Scotland and we have a four day weekend to look forward to, what more could we ask for?

Today I’m sharing a one layer card, which is not something I do very often…. like almost never!  I used a record stamp from an old magazine freebie set and I used memento black ink with clear embossing powder to give it a glossy look like a record.  Then I used some washi tape to create a wide stripe.  I had to make my masking wider using two lengths of tape as my first attempt I went over the edge and made a mess!

Then I used my lovely new make up brushes to blend some distress oxide inks over this panel (from the bottom I used blueprint sketch, salty ocean, cracked pistachio and twisted citron).  I added a few splashes of water to lift the colour and then removed the tape.  I finished off by colouring the centres of the records with the matching colours before stamping “Happy birthday”.

I hope that you like my simple one layer card.  I think I don’t tend to make these as I’m quite messy and I end up wasting card blanks (as I did in this case!) but maybe I should work on being a little more precise and try out a few more one layer designs.

Back to Basics and Beyond – Use a Spray

Happy hump day crafty people!  How are you doing?  Today there is a new challenge launching at the Back to Basics and Beyond blog.  The prompt this time is to use a spray.

I picked out some floral stamps from a magazine gift and a sentiment from a Hunkydory For the Love of Stamps set.

I stamped the posy of flowers and heat embossed it in clear on white card stock.  I used inks and a water brush to paint the flowers and leaves.

Then I made a mask for the flowers by stamping onto a post it and fussy cutting it out.  I covered the stamped image and then added some ink through a home made stencil (used a Tonic Studios background leaf die).  I had seen someone using a make up brush like this for ink and bought a few very cheaply on ebay.  I am so impressed, the ink goes on really evenly and smoothly.  I’ve got a few brushes that were pretty expensive and are specifically for applying ink and I don’t do a good job with them!  I always seem to end up with very uneven colour but these brushes are fab! I took away the stencil and then sprayed some ink from a height.  I liked how there is some fine mist as well as some larger splashes.  The colour I used is buttercup.

To finish off I stamped the sentiment and then mounted on some dark green card before adding to the card front.

Happy Spring

Hi crafty people, hope you are having a fab Saturday!  I’m sharing a quick card I made this week for a few challenges.

I downloaded some digital papers recently from a lovely Etsy shop (Erin Bradley Designs ) recently including these from the yellow and grey medley.  I paired the papers up with some yellow and grey card in my stash and added some stamps from a magazine last year.

I thought the watering can with daffodil was a perfect colour match for the papers.  I hope that you like this card.  I would like to enter it in the following challenges:

B is for Buildings

Happy Friday crafty people!  I hope you are having a fab day.  Today I am excited to join the Alphabet Challenge design team for a few months.  I love this challenge and I hope that you will pop over and check out the great projects from the design team as well as share your entry for this challenge – B for Buildings.

I decided it was the perfect excuse to play with my Build-a-house die set from Gemini for Crafter’s Companion.  It’s a great die set with lots of individual components so you can create lots of different looks.

I built up my house on a card panel and then decided to add it to an easel card with the sentiment on a raised panel to prop up the easel.  The sentiment die is from a First Edition die set that I’ve used lots of times.

I love how an easel card looks and I think they really stand out in among other cards.

Hopping by to say hello!

Hi crafty people, how’s your week going?  I’m not sure where my time has gone this week!  I’m just writing this blog post before I go and pick up my car from the garage as she has passed her MOT (phew!).  I’m sharing a cute Easter card that I made using the Tonic Studios Betty Bunny die set. I cut the bunny components from some craft card.  I had some cute carrot print digital paper that I used for the background and I fussy cut a few carrots out for the bunny to be holding onto.  The leafy green paper came from the same set as the carrot paper.

I added some mats and layers to the sentiment and arranged the panels on the card front.  I finished it off with some doodled lines around the edges of the panels.

Happy Sunday crafty people, it’s a dreich  (Scottish word to describe a grey dreary wet day!) day here in Midlothian.  Perfect weather for stitching!  I can’t believe it’s been three weeks since my last SAL post and I’m still not finished my cat project!

I’m really close to finishing but I just couldn’t quite finish it off before today.  I’m enjoying it but I must admit I’m looking forward to being done with those pink flowers and picking out my next UFO to work on!
