Butterfly Mini Art Journal Page

Hi crafty friends, I feel like I’ve been neglecting my blog in recent months so I’ve been thinking of blog post ideas and I’m going to try to get a couple of posts up each week at least! Today I wanted to share a mini art journal page which I made for the Woolly Steph Art Club. Steph is on YouTube and twice a month she pulls a prompt for us to create a mini journal page, there is no pressure to do every prompt it’s just for fun but there are quite a few crafters who are really good at sharing their makes, you can check them out on instagram using #WSArtClub. The prompt I’m working on today is from mid January (I’m always playing catch up!) and it is “Butterfly”.

I had been mulling it over for a while and decided to have a go with alcohol inks to create some butterflies. I made a video on my YouTube channel sharing the process as I played and learnt from my mistakes!

Here is my finished journal page.

Completely Bonkers!

Happy hump day (at least I think it’s Wednesday!)  How are you doing?  I hope you are staying safe and keeping well in these difficult times.  We are just plodding on in lockdown really, lucky to be well.  I recently ordered the Completely Bonkers stamp set from JMC Designs and I just had to have a play today.  When I was looking for a pad to use for my smash a small paper pad project I also came across this little Scrumptious Tea Party pad and it has some papers that were perfect for an Alice in Wonderland themed project.  I also pulled out a little pocket watch die and a playing card die too.

I stamped the mad hatter in memento ink and then coloured her in with alcohol pens and adding a little gel pen in white and gold.  Then I fussy cut her out and did the same with the signpost from the stamp set.  I created a little collage with the different elements and added a few lilac gems.  I do have an art journal which I’ve only added one page so I think I will pop this in there too.

I hope your life doesn’t feel completely bonkers and that you are doing ok.  Thanks so much for visiting the blog, I’d love it if you said hello in the comments!

Playing with mixed media

Happy Friday crafty people!  How is your week going?  I’ve had a really lovely one, the sun is shining in Scotland today and I’m ready for a chilled out weekend.  Way back at the start of the year I said I was going to start my art journal and I did (it’s only got one page so far but that’s a start…. isn’t it!).  I’ve been a bit stuck as to how to progress so I thought I would just have a play with some mixed media and see if a page emerges.

I took an A4 piece of card that had an advert on it.  Rather than writing out the process I thought I would share some pictures along the way with a few notes for what I used……

The last thing I did was to trim off the edges.   To be honest I wasn’t very happy with it but I decided to keep it as a base for a page in my journal as well as a couple of others projects!  I’m hoping that by trying out different techniques I will get a better idea for what works and be able to produce something that I like more!

Anyway I will be sharing what I did with this over the next couple of weeks (the first one will be up tomorrow morning!)  I’d love to hear if you have any advice or tips for me!  Thanks so much for having a peek at what I’ve been up to.

Art Journal beginnings

Hello crafty people!  I hope your first week of 2019 is going well.  We are back into our usual routine today and although it was lovely having time off I think I was ready to get  back into normal daily life!

In my last post I listed five goals for 2019 and one was to start an art journal to practice some mixed media techniques.  I wasn’t sure where to start but I remembered I had joined an art journal facebook group ( Nina Ribena’s Art Journal Prompts and more ) so I jumped into the latest prompt.

The challenge was to create a bokeh sky page with fireworks for New Year.  Somehow in my vast selection of craft supplies I didn’t have any fireworks so I found a flower stencil that I decided could pass as a firework burst!

It’s the first page for my art journal and the first time I’ve tried the bokeh technique.  I was quite pleased with it, although I hope I will get much better over the course of 2019.  Do any of you have an art journal?  Do you have any resources that helped you to develop mixed media pages?

Thanks so much for stopping by the blog, I’d love to hear how your year has started and if you have made a start to any crafty plans for 2019 yet.
