April showers (or lack of!)

Hi crafty people, how are you all today?  It’s Monday again and another week of lockdown!  We ventured out yesterday to get food shopping for us and to deliver to my Mum and it’s a relief to get it over and done with for another week or so.  It’s been a lovely sunny few days (although not very warm) so we had a braai last night which was lovely.  In case you didn’t know my hubby is South African so it’s a braai not a BBQ!

Today’s card is inspire by 2 different challenges.  The Freshly Made Sketches #431 and the Daring Cardmakers Challenge – umbrella theme.

FMS Final 431-001

I used a clearly Besotted umbrella die and stamp which was a gift with a craft magazine in the last few months.  The patterned paper was part of a free magazine download from Polkadoodles in the last issue of Creative Stamping Magazine.

I hope that none of you are feeling under the weather and that you are staying safe.

Ahoy there!

Helloooooo!  It’s been a while since I was active on here and I’ve missed it.  I need to go and catch up on comments and see what blog posts I’ve missed so apologies if there is a flurry of commenting in the next wee while!  Life has been a bit hectic recently but I’m so pleased to be back on the blog.  I thought I would start back with a couple of challenges:

Tuesday Morning Sketch #517

TMS #517

Cupcake Inspirations Challenge #476

cic476

I decided to use some of my (extensive!) patterned papers and these were from a pad I got in Lidl (I think) at least a year ago!  For glitter I added some blue glitter paper but also fussy cut out some starfish and a shell from the paper which had a glittery finish.

This was a nice quick card to make and I thought it was perfect for the summer.  I hope you have all been doing really well?  We have been keeping busy!  Mr Darcy is finally back to his usual healthy self after nearly a month of recovering from his bladder stones.  I’ve had lots of orders to make up and last weekend I had a stall at a local dogs event which was lots of fun.  I was super busy before making lots of doggy designs in the run up and I’ll be adding them to my Etsy shop over the next week or so.

Thank you so much for visiting the Ginger Ninja Crafts blog.  I ‘ll be back again very soon.

One layer card

Happy Thursday crafty people!  I hope you are having a great week.  It’s a gorgeous sunny day here in Scotland and we have a four day weekend to look forward to, what more could we ask for?

Today I’m sharing a one layer card, which is not something I do very often…. like almost never!  I used a record stamp from an old magazine freebie set and I used memento black ink with clear embossing powder to give it a glossy look like a record.  Then I used some washi tape to create a wide stripe.  I had to make my masking wider using two lengths of tape as my first attempt I went over the edge and made a mess!

20190418_092800

Then I used my lovely new make up brushes to blend some distress oxide inks over this panel (from the bottom I used blueprint sketch, salty ocean, cracked pistachio and twisted citron).  I added a few splashes of water to lift the colour and then removed the tape.  I finished off by colouring the centres of the records with the matching colours before stamping “Happy birthday”.

I hope that you like my simple one layer card.  I think I don’t tend to make these as I’m quite messy and I end up wasting card blanks (as I did in this case!) but maybe I should work on being a little more precise and try out a few more one layer designs.

Thanks so much for visiting the Ginger Ninja Crafts blog, I hope you will say hi in the comments.  Have a fab evening whatever you are up to.

Ombre Background

Happy Thursday Crafty People!  I hope you are all having a fabulous week.  I have a fishy card to share today for the Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers challenge, for the theme O for Ombre.

I started by making an ombre background using some distress oxide (blueprint sketch and salty ocean) and distree inks (faded jeans and shaded lilac).  I blended them together from palest to darkest before splashing with some water to leave some white spots and splashes.

20190318_143234

I used the lovely furry friends stamp set (a recent magazine giveaway) for the sentiment and heat embossed this in gold on some navy cardstock.

I chose the gold fish from the Rare Earth Cute Critters stamp set.  It’s such a detailed stamp that I simply stamped it in Izink ink (honey) on white and orange paper before fussy cutting them both out and layering the orange behind to leave a drop shadow.

I mounted the ombre paper on orange before adding to the navy card.  The fish was glued on with some gold gem bubbles.

I hope that you like my fishy card!  Thanks so much for visiting the Ginger Ninja Crafts blog, I hope you’ll come back soon.

D for diet

Happy Tuesday crafty people!  I hope you are having a great day!  I scheduled this post ahead of time because we have been down in London for a short break for our wedding anniversary.  I’m sure I will have some tales to tell as we have lots of fun things planned but as I type it’s not happened yet (I think this is the closest to time travel I will get!)

Anyway, back to the purpose of this post…. it’s another entry for a challenge!  Today I’m here to enter the Sisterhood of the Snarky Stampers D for Diet challenge.  I have had this set since the start of the year when it was a gift with the Creative Stamping Magazine.  This was the perfect opportunity to get these stamps inky.

20190228_105735

First I cut a frame from pink mirror board.  Then I cut a square from white card and heat embossed the hourglass stamp in white.  I then blended over this with distress inks (Tattered Rose, Milled Lavender & Picked Raspberry).

I picked one of the Acid Drops and What Nots stamps from the set and stamped this lady on the scales with black archive ink.  I used the same distress inks to give some subtle colour to the image before fussy cutting her out.  I stamped the sentiment onto white card and matted it on some of the pink mirror card.

I then assembled the card and popped the sentiment up on 3d pads to give it a little dimension.

I hope my card raised a little smile, and thanks again for visiting the Ginger Ninja Crafts blog.

Spread your wings and fly

Happy Friday crafty people!  I can’t believe this week has whizzed past so quickly.  I’ve neglected the blog a bit as I’ve been busy making lots of orders for the Ginger Ninja Craft Shop  mostly for Valentine’s Day next week However I’m back with an entry for the Alphabet Challenge Blog which is currently on W for Wings.

I had just picked up the current issue of Creative Stamping magazine which had some beautiful stamps including this pretty dragonfly and I thought it was perfect for the theme.

I started by making the smooshed ink background with some distress oxide inks.  It always takes me a bit of time to get a background I am happy with when I do this technique, it seems to go through a messy phase!  After I had dried it thoroughly I used the anti static bag and then stamped and heat embossed the dragon fly onto the background using the Wow embossing glitter in Calypso.

20190208_130745

I cut a couple of squares from navy card and layered up the squares then topped it off with a dragonfly heat embossed in white on vellum and a stamped sentiment.  The sentiment came from the Tickle my fancy set from Clearly Besotted Stamps.

I hope that you like my finished card, and I’d love to hear your feedback.  Thanks so much for visiting the blog and I hope to see you again soon.

Wild and free!

Hi everyone, how are you doing today?  It’s still really windy here but at least the sun is shining and I’m looking forward to an outing to the Edinburgh Fringe tonight to see a couple of comedy shoes with my hubby.

My post today is sharing a card I made for the 92nd Male Room Challenge where the theme is “wild and free”.

https://themaleroomchallengeblog.blogspot.com/2018/08/challenge-92-wild-free.html

20180816_101618

I used the above two stamp sets, one from Creative Stamping magazine and the Go Wild set from For the Love of Stamps by Hunkydory.  I heat embossed the border in gold on craft card.  The sun set sky was made with distress oxides in (spiced marmalade and abandoned coral) and distress inks  (barn door and mustard seed) before stamping the silhouettes in black ink.

I hope you like my safari card, i love this theme as it brings back happy memories of holidays in South Africa.  Have a great day and I’ll see you tomorrow with another card challenge entry.  Thanks for stopping by.

Another day, another sketch!

Happy hump day everyone!  I hope you are all having a great day.  Today I’m sharing two cards inspired by the sketch from the September 2018 issue of Cardmaking & Papercraft magazine (see page 86 for the sketch and three different card ideas).

20180808_152400

The first card I made using the autumnal stamps from a recent issue of Creative Stamping magazine.  I used the acorn stamp and three colours of memento inks to create the panels.  Then I stamped and heat embossed the sentiment on a dark brown circle.  I stamped the squirrel in brown archive ink and used a mixture of distress oxide inks and memento inks to watercolour the squirrel before fussy cutting it out and layering onto a larger dark brown circle.  I finished off with some orange enamel dots.  I know it’s technically still summer but it feels like autumn is on it’s way here in Scotland.  The weather is cooler and it’s been really windy and wet, although to be fair that description could be used across all four seasons here!!

20180808_152445

The second card I used one of the patterned paper downloads and the peacock feather stamps from the magazine gift too.  I added some purple, navy and gold cardstock and some purple gems for a bit of bling!

20180808_152501

I really enjoyed playing with the sketch and love how different the cards turned out from one layout.  Thanks so much for stopping by and I hope you like the cards.

Tennis anyone?

Hey crafty people!  It’s a bit cooler today and a much more comfortable temperature to get busy in my craft room.  Today I’d like to share a card I made for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge (http://freshlymadesketches.blogspot.com/ ).

FMS343

As it’s the first day of Wimbledon I was inspired to use a tennis theme and I used a set of stamps from a recent issue of Creative Stamping Magazine (issue 56).  First of all I used a black pen and ruler to create a net effect for the bottom panel and I adhered this to a green card base.

20180702_122335

I cut a panel of card from white card stock and using the tennis ball I stamped a background.  Then I stamped the sentiment “Happy birthday champ” onto the panel and glued it onto the card base.  I then stamped two tennis rackets and coloured them using my First Edition Graphic Markers before fussy cutting them out.  I glued one onto the white panel and used sticky pads to raise up the other and give the card some dimension.

I hope everyone is enjoying some summer weather and that you like my card.  Happy crafting folks
