Splish Splash….. I dare you!

Happy Friday crafty friends! This week lovely Svenja is hosting our Daring Cardmakers challenge and she is daring us to make a water-themed card. You could splash around bathing or swimming or maybe create a splishy-splashy background with inks / sprays / waterstains.

I had the perfect stencil from Clearly Besotted, called Splat It! I inked it up with two shades of blue from Catherine Pooler (It’s a Boy and Cummerbund).

I used a Stampendous stamp set which I’ve had in my stash for several years and I’m not even sure what it was called! I stamped the bear wearing the little rain coat and welly boots and frog umbrella. These were coloured with my triblend markers from Spectrum Noir with a little extra shading using the polychromo pencils and a white gel pen for the highlights.

To save trying to fussy cut the umbrella handle I glued the bear onto the card base and then stamped the umbrella straight onto the card.

Then I just glued the coloured and fussy cut umbrella into position…..

The finishing touches was a sentiment (from the Tracey Hey “Make a Splash” stamp set) and a water drop bead which came with a Papercraft Society box a few months ago. I hope my little teddy splashing about in the puddle brightens up your day. What will you make for this week’s Daring Cardmakers Challenge?

Until the next time, crafty hugs

Daring Cardmakers January Elemental Challenge

Happy Friday crafty people! I hope you are doing well and keeping safe. We have our first challenge of 2021 from the Daring Cardmakers blog and as it’s a new month it’s an elemental challenge. This simply means that we have some images for you to take your inspiration from. This month the lovely Dawn has chosen this beautiful selection of cosy images. Your card should use at least three elements from this selection, just perfect for the chilly start to 2021 here in the UK anyway!

I opted to use the wood effect, tartan and the ice skates to create this card.

To create this card I had a scrap of the tartan paper in my stash, I cut a piece and rounded the corners. The skates die is from the Tonic Studios Essentials Festive Die Set Wreath and Skates. I did some paper piecing and added some extra branches which I coloured with Tri-Blend markers from Spectrum Noir. I used the sentiment and heart stamp from the Warm Wishes Too set from Clearly Besotted. The wood effect paper is from a pad from the Craft Box UK monthy papers subscription.

I hope you will join in and share your cosy themed cards this week, next Friday we will be back with another prompt to keep your crafty mojo going.

Picture Perfect Cardmaking Dare

Happy Friday crafty friend….. which must mean it’s time for another Daring Cardmakers Blog Challenge! This week the lovely Miri has tasked us with making a card for the theme “Picture Perfect”. You can use a photo, camera, a picture frame, a polaroid layout, an actual photograph or anything picture/photo related on your card.

I chose to use a camera die I had in my stash from Paper Smooches. I cut it in black and added some colour with paper piecing. To make the lense look more realistic I added some detail in white gel pen and gave it a coat of glossy accents. I added a star cut from holographic card and some nuvo drops. The sentiments are from the Clearly Besotted Laugh Out Loud stamp set which is perfect for a cheeky birthday card!

So I hope that you will join us and share your picture perfect cards this week!

I also uploaded a little chatty video this morning on my youtube channel as I recently reached 100 subscribers, have you subscribed and joined the gang yet?!

Many thanks for visiting the Ginger Ninja Crafts blog, I hope to see you again very soon!

April showers (or lack of!)

Hi crafty people, how are you all today?  It’s Monday again and another week of lockdown!  We ventured out yesterday to get food shopping for us and to deliver to my Mum and it’s a relief to get it over and done with for another week or so.  It’s been a lovely sunny few days (although not very warm) so we had a braai last night which was lovely.  In case you didn’t know my hubby is South African so it’s a braai not a BBQ!

Today’s card is inspire by 2 different challenges.  The Freshly Made Sketches #431 and the Daring Cardmakers Challenge – umbrella theme.

FMS Final 431-001

I used a clearly Besotted umbrella die and stamp which was a gift with a craft magazine in the last few months.  The patterned paper was part of a free magazine download from Polkadoodles in the last issue of Creative Stamping Magazine.

I hope that none of you are feeling under the weather and that you are staying safe.

Being good is overrated!!

Happy Monday!  How are you all doing?  I hope you had a fab weekend.  I was in Glasgow yesterday at the craft fair at the SECC and I picked up a few new crafty items to play with!  We also were celebrating the Springboks win and looking forward to the Rugby World Cup final next weekend!

I had such fun playing along with the Cat Lover’s Blog Hop last week so it’s feeling a little strange to be sharing a project that doesn’t have a single cat on it!  I was inspired by the Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers challenge #146 for this project.

pink halloween

I decided to use the Good to be Bad stamp set from Clearly Besotted.  I used some pink glitter card and made an inky background for my witch by smooshing distress oxides in abandoned coral and picked raspberry as well as the milled lavender distress ink.  I added some little star stamps and the sentiment heat embossed in white.

I used the spectrum noir sparkle pen in crystal clear over the witches outfit to make it a little more bling!

I’d also like to enter this project into the Cardz 4 Gals challenge which is to use something beginning with S.  I’m counting the sparkly elements and the stars!  I’m also including this card in theLeigh SB Designs 31 Days of Halloween Blog Hop (I’m a little late to the game but better late than never!)

2019 CLH Badge1

Today’s card uses the Feline Fine stamp set from Clearly Besotted Stamps .  I used the current sketch from the Fusion Card Challenge for the layout.  I coloured my images using alcohol inks and fussy cut them out.

The patterned papers were in my scrap pile and I used a strip of gray card and stamped the sentiment onto this.

Explosion Card – Back to Basics and Beyond Challenge

Happy hump day crafty people!  I hope you are having a great week.  Today there is a new challenge launched at the Back to Basics and Beyond Challenge and it’s a fun one!  This time we are challenged to get some fancy folding done to make an explosion card.  I had never made one of these but after a browse of pinterest I realised that these are not difficult at all and I just had to decide on the theme of my card.  I thought I would break down the process here so if you fancied joining in you could follow these steps.

The first thing you need is a 8.5 x 8.5 inch piece of paper with a pattern on just one side.

20190625_103315

Then you want to decorate the reverse side of this paper, I used some tropical leaves stamps (from the Flamingo Party stamp set from For the love of stamps by Hunky Dory).  I wanted to leave a blank spot in the middle to write a personal message so I masked it off with a circle sticky note.

20190625_104107

Once I had stamped all the leaves I removed the mask and stamped a sentiment.  The dino-mite seemed appropriate for an exploding card but is also fitting for the characters in the front!

20190625_104803

Then I started with the folding!  The first step is fold the bottom right corner to the top left and then use a bone folder to smooth the fold.  Open this fold up and repeat with the remaining corners so you have a cross folded.  Open up the paper again and turn over before folding the bottom edge up to the top edge.

The next stage is to create a triangle by folding the sides in side so it looks like this…

Mark the centre point of the bottom of this triangle with pencil (both sides).  Fold each side point into the centre and then turn the triangle over and repeat on the other side.

The next stage is to open up the sides and fold the point inside the triangle to form a concertina inside.  Once you’ve done all four yours should look like this….

You then need to create a card blank from a sheet of card measuring 4.5 x 9 inches, folded in half.

Add some double sided tape around the edges of your patterned papers and stick the bottom inside your card base …

before closing the card to stick the top half to your base.

The next step is to decorate the front. I cut a white square measuring 3.75 inches and decorated with the same leaves as inside before adding a sentiment and some cute characters (Clearly Besotted stamp set – You’re dino-mite)

The final step is to test out the explosion effect….

I hope that my explanation makes sense!  In case it doesn’t I actually made a youtube video tutuorial and you can find it here Jenny Ginger Ninja Crafts Channel .  Please be kind as this is my first youtube video and I should have turned my phone to landscape!  Ah well I will know better the next time, I decided to upload it anyway as done is better than perfect!

Thanks so much for visiting my blog, I would love if you could pop over to the Back to Basics and Beyond Blog and enter our challenge.

E is for Embellishments

Happy Friday crafty people!  Hope you are having a great day.

I am really enjoying the ABC Christmas Challenge and I have a nice little stash of Christmas cards for 2019 already!  Today I am sharing my card for the E for Embellishments prompts.

I chose to use some gems as the embellishments.  The christmas pudding die is from Tonic Studios.  I paper pieced some pale gold for the icing and green mirror card for the holly leaves and then added some gems for the berries.  The gems were clear and I coloured them red using an alcohol pen.

20190312_140503

I added some red glitter card and green mirror card mats and used a sentiment stamp from Clearly Besotted.

I hope you like my little pudding card.  Thanks for visiting the blog.

C for Candy

Hi crafty people!  How are you all doing?  Our spring weather continues today, although I understand it’s going to get colder again very soon, so we are just enjoying it while we can.  Today we took the morning off and went to a local park to do the snowdrop spectacular walk and it was stunning.  We even say a couple of roe deer but I wasn’t quick enough to get a photograph.  We treated ourselves to brunch before my husband headed off to the office and I went to drop off orders for customers at the post office.

It was a lovely start to our day.  This chilled out blog post is sharing a card for a couple of challenges (ABC Christmas Challenge and Alphabet Challenge).  I’m trying to get a few Christmas cards made for my 2019 stash every month.  This card used the above challenge prompts for C for Candy and X for xtra bling!

20190226_140614

I used the candy canes stamp from the Sweet Christmas set by Clearly Besotted.  I stamped and heat embossed a few of these using the Wow red glitter powder then fussy cut them out.  Then I cut a ring to be the base of my wreath using two nesting circle dies.  I used a holly border die which was gifted  to me (I think it is a spell binders die) and cut several holly sprigs.  Then I added some small red gems for the berries and layered them onto the wreath before adding some candy canes.  I then used some 3d tape to adhere the wreath to a white square and then layered it up on the red and then patterned paper.

To finish it off I stamped the sentiment (from the same stamp set) and stuck in a couple of the left over candy canes.

The sun was so bright it was hard to capture the bling on the card, but I think it’s a little clearer in this picture.

I hope you are having a lovely Tuesday whatever you are up to.  Thanks so much for visiting my blog.
