Daring Cardmakers – Fireworks!

Happy Friday crafty people! How’s your week going? I hope you are all safe and well in these strange and unsettling times. Amazingly it’s Friday again and that means another challenge from the Daring Cardmakers blog. I’m excited to share today’s challenge as it’s the first time I’m hosting the challenge (so please come and join in!!).

Next week in the UK it’s Guy Fawkes day or Bonfire Night on the 5th of November. Guy Fawkes was part of the Gunpowder plot in 1605 which attempted to blow up the Houses of Parliament . The plot failed as someone warned the governments and they caught them in the act and executed them for their crimes. Traditionally we would celebrate by going to a firework display where we would burn a “guy” on a bonfire. For those outwith the UK don’t panic, no guys are harmed, it’s just a fake. When I was a kid we used to get an old shirt and pair of trousers and tie the ankles and wrists with string before stuffing him with scrunched up newspapers and adding a balloon head. This year our local event has been cancelled to keep people safe. So what could be safer than crafty fireworks! Show us your firework themed cards….

I recently purchased the circle burst stencil from Funky Fossil Designs. I though it looked a bit like a sky bursting with fireworks so I used that on navy blue card. To create the colourful fireworks I used the Catherine Wheel Nuvo Shimmer Powder and Pixie Powders in Silver Dream and Rich Gold.

I taped down the stencil over the card and sprinkled the powders over the top before spraying lightly with water. It’s a fine balance to get enough water to activate the powders without using too much with floods the stencil. I blotted with kitchen towel, peeled off the stencil and dried it off with my heat tool.

I then cut a circle and layered it on a copper scalloped circle. I die cut the celebrate 3 times in the copper mirror card and layered them up to make them stand out from the fireworks. The only downside is it’s very tricky to capture the shimmer on camera (well with my limited photography skills anyway!) This was my best attempt!
